Bridging the Mental Health Divide. Offering Hope and Healing.

Are you looking for an internship to get
great experience, have fun, and boost your resume?

Our 2025-2026 Gap-Year Intern Cohort is FULL.

We will begin accepting applications for our
Summer 2026 internship cohort starting in November 2025.
Psychology For All (PFA), a nonprofit organization founded in 2015, is committed to improving the emotional well-being of individuals and families living in the greater Charlotte-Mecklenburg area who cannot access the mental health services they need. Our program is dedicated to educating the community through distributing up-to-date information on mental health issues, offering educational outreach in partnership with other organizations to increase awareness, and connecting individuals to other mental health and community resources as needed. Additionally, our services increase accessibility to mental health care by removing our underserved populations' financial and cultural barriers, including the cost of services and access to quality, evidence-based care. Finally, our program provides social and financial protections to socially disadvantaged groups as our populations of interest.

PFA is seeking interns who can work independently and are looking for workplace learning to enhance their resume to get valuable, real-world experience directly related to their field of study.  Applicants should be enthusiastic, self-driven team players who possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strongly desire to increase access to mental health services in our community. Undergraduate and graduate students who have their home or university in the Charlotte area are strongly encouraged to apply. We will not accept applicants outside the greater Charlotte-Mecklenburg area since our internships are primarily remote but have some in-person components.

Summer Interns: Summer interns are part of a PFA summer intern cohort of about 4-6 interns.
**We do not offer internships to current students during the school year, only in the summer.**
Gap Year Interns: Open to recent college graduates interested in interning before attending graduate school.

Your non-paid internship will consist of helping us in a variety of ways to expand awareness about our program and engage with and create connections with local organizations. The hours are flexible, but we ask for 5-10 hours per week. Most projects and responsibilities will be completed remotely.

Perks:
  • Work directly with our Board of Directors and Executive Administrator.
  • Get start-up and remote experience.
  • Gain hands-on experience in mental health care, community outreach, and nonprofit operations.
  • Receive an overview of non-profit work. Interns assist with all areas of PFA with the possibility of an area of concentration (see below). Gap-year interns will be assigned to one of our PFA committees as their intern support.
  • Team experience.
  • Flexible remote schedule with minimal in-person components.
  • References available upon successful completion of the internship.

Potential Areas of Concentration:
  • Advertising/Marketing
  • Clinical Services
  • Community Engagement
  • Finance
  • Fundraising & Events
  • Grant Research & Writing
  • Non-Profit Management
  • Web/Social Media Design

Internship Testimonial

PFA exposed me to the importance of accessible mental health care and awareness through the lens of a nonprofit. I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the services PFA provides and how we can work to equitably expand these services so that anyone and everyone not only feels comfortable receiving the care they deserve, but also has the resources to ensure they are able to do so. It was clear how passionate everyone at PFA was about improving mental health in Charlotte, and I truly value the time and growth I had while having the opportunity to contribute my ideas and learn from everyone! ~ Haley, Intern Cohort Summer 2023
